2008 Season - Pre Season Guide
Draft Day
NFL Training Camps open this week and the 2008 BUMS NFL Fantasy Draft will take place at BUMS HQ on Friday evening August 29th. Cheryl will be doing food for 7pm with the draft following at 7:30pm. All should be wrapped up by 10pm. Attached is the player price spreadsheet including all the players 2007 scores & how much a Franchise player will cost you if he is cut by his current owner. Remember if you cut your franchise player you’ll have to pay him his signed salary for the rest of the season/two seasons. This year big names now available include both Superbowl QBs: record setting Tom Brady and Peyton’s little brother. Running Backs Stephen Jackson and the Brothers Johnson: Larry and Rudi plus receivers Larry Fitzgerald and TE Tony Gonzalez who are among the other players available as they have all ended their 2 year Franchise designation & become free agents. They are released onto the open market together with 16 rookies - see the rookie report attached.
Draft Order and Franchise Players
Aaron will have the first pick in the draft and Andy H the final choice. The full draft order, budgets available & franchise players are attached. Mark H will have an extra pick and the end of the 5th round to compensate for having just one Franchise player. In the annual re-naming David S and Daz change their Franchise names again. Despite being promoted last year Daz’s disillusion with his squad means they are now called Underachieving Bastards while Dave keeps with the theme of his homeland the former French Letters and last years French Frogs have been re-branded The French Sticks.
Trading DaysAs with previous years if you make a complete hash of your draft (or if one of your key picks gets injured) you will have 2 opportunities to put things right. Trading Day 1 will be on Sunday 12th October before the week 6 games and Trading Day 2 will be on Sunday 16th November before the week 11 games. Get these dates in your diary.
Season Kick-Off Game
Our first game to watch this season is an NFC East match-up as Washington travel to the defending Superbowl champion New York Giants (that still doesn’t sound right). We expect Sky will show the game live in the early hours of Friday September 5th and we’ll get together later that evening to watch it off tape. Venue to be confirmed.
Right I’m off to Beijing - see you on August 29th.
